What level of English is required?
You should have at least a basic level of English, and have a reasonable knowledge of the grammar and structure. If you have any doubts about your standard of English, please contact us and we can assess your level over the telephone.
What age range do you cater for?
Our courses are for adults. The minimum age is 18, but most of our clients are in their late 20s and upwards.
Will I receive a certificate?
Everyone is presented with a certificate from us upon completion of their course.
How many students will be there besides me?
All language training and class time is one-to-one. Occasionally students and tutors meet together in the evenings.
Where is Cambridge?
Cambridge is 60 miles north of London, very close to the M11 motorway. It is easily reached from Stansted, Luton and Heathrow airports, and also has regular and frequent train and bus services from the centre of London and from the rest of Britain. Please see the map on the travel information page.
Which is the best airport to use?
The nearest airport to Cambridge is London Stansted, 30 miles away, with express connections to Cambridge by train (40 minutes journey time) and coach (50 minutes).
Will I have the chance to do some sight-seeing?
You will have the opportunity to take in the sights, and while doing this with your tutor you will be making huge leaps with your English too! Of course our emphasis is always on improving your English.
What is included in the price?
The course price includes all tuition, the pre-course meeting, all course materials, and a course completion certificate. Breakfast is included in the accommodation price. Dinner is included in the full immersion course (option A) or when the Dinner Option is taken.
What isn’t included in the price?
Flights and transfers, drinks, lunch, dinner (unless Option A or the Dinner Option is taken), and extra services from the hotel (for example, laundry and telephone calls) are not included.
How do I pay?
On receipt of your booking application, we will give you details of the company's bank account into which the money for the deposit should be paid (usually by bank transfer). The balance of the fee is payable at or before the start of the course, either by bank transfer, travellers cheques or cash.
What happens if I need to cancel a booking?
Anyone cancelling a booking by 4 weeks before the start of the course will receive a full refund of the deposit, except for an administration charge of £20.
After 4 weeks, we regret that the deposit will not be refunded, but we will change the date of your course, if possible. There will be no refunds after the start of the course.
Do you accept group bookings?
Yes.
How late can I book?
If there is room available, bookings can be made up to 3 days before the proposed arrival date.
What will my hotel be like?
Please see the Accommodation Page for the description of each type of hotel (3* or 4* hotel or guest house). Once you tell us what kind of accommodation you want, we will check availability and give you some choices.
Will there be internet access?
There is in-room internet access in most hotels. There is internet access (not always in-room) in many guest houses. There are numerous internet cafes and communications centres in the city.
Can friends, colleagues or family members share a room?
Certainly. If there are 2 people attending the course together, and they share a room, there will be a significant cost saving.
Can I be accompanied by someone who won’t be learning?
If you wish to share a room with someone who is not on the course but who wants to spend time in the area, please tell us when you book.
Do you cater for children?
We do not accept children on our courses. There are holiday classes for children in Cambridge, but we cannot be responsible for recommending or booking them.
What do I need to bring?
In addition to the usual items taken on a holiday, it would be useful to bring an English dictionary, and an adapter for any electrical devices.
How much money do I need to bring?
You will need enough money to cover your travel to and from the course, and for any alcoholic drinks, admission to museums etc., boat or bus rides or other activities, and for any other sundry items you may require.
Do I need insurance?
We strongly advise everyone to arrange travel insurance, not only for medical treatment, but for flight delays, loss of luggage and personal items etc.
What is the weather like?
English weather is notoriously unpredictable, so it is advisable to bring a range of clothing.
Will there be a vegetarian food option at mealtimes?
Yes. There will always be a choice of meals available that will suit most people, but if there are special requirements or tastes please inform us before the beginning of the course.
Are there areas where I can smoke?
Smoking is now banned in all indoor public areas in the UK, and all hotels, restaurants and bars are now completely non-smoking.
Are there medical facilities on hand?
All of the classes (and hotels) are located in the centre of Cambridge, and are within easy reach of local hospitals and health centres.
Emergency treatment in National Health Service hospitals is free for everyone. Citizens of EEA countries (EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) or countries with reciprocal health care agreements with the UK are also treated free if admitted as a patient or referred to an out-patient clinic.
Nationals of other countries may have to pay for medical treatment, and so should arrange travel insurance before arrival in the UK.
